When it comes to a small, on-the-go Bluetooth speaker, the JBL Go 3 certainly grabs attention. With a bold new design, waterproof / dustproof durability (IP67), and the trusted brand heritage of JBL, this speaker promises to bring music wherever you go. But how well does it deliver in practice? Let’s dive into the review.
Design & Build
From the moment you pick it up, the JBL Go 3 feels well constructed. It uses a fabric-covered front mesh, rubberised edges, and a built-in loop that lets you clip or hang it. According to official specs, it measures roughly 8.6 × 6.9 × 4.0 cm and weighs about 209 g.
The IP67 rating means it’s dust tight and can survive immersion in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes.
All this makes the Go 3 a very portable, rugged option — whether you’re heading to the beach, shower, or just out on a walk.
Sound Performance
For its size, the Go 3 delivers a lively sound. Reviewers note that it “produces a rich, full-bodied sound which can fill any room” despite the small driver.
That said, it’s important to adjust expectations: it’s a mono speaker (not stereo), so the stereo imaging and deep bass will be limited. As one user on Reddit put it:
“It has good sound, good battery, but most important of all has great portability and great durability. Just don’t expect subwoofer-level deep …”
In everyday use, it works great for casual listening: podcasts, background music, outdoor usage with a small group. But if you’re looking for club-level bass or room-filling stereo separation, you’ll likely want a larger speaker.
Features & Connectivity
The Go 3 is simple and focused. It uses Bluetooth (version 5.1 per official spec).
There is no auxiliary (3.5 mm) input, no built-in microphone for calls, and no companion app support. The official JBL page confirms no app integration.
Controls are physical buttons: power, Bluetooth pairing, volume, and play/pause. Many users appreciate the tactile feedback of real buttons rather than touch-sensitive controls.
As for battery life, JBL states about 5 hours of playtime on a full charge. Real-world reviewers confirm that while 5 hours is realistic, it might feel short if you plan extended outdoor use.
What’s Good
- Excellent portability: small size and built-in loop make it easy to carry or hang.
- Durable and outdoor-friendly: IP67 rating is a big plus.
- Good sound for its size and price: reviewers praise its lively and fun performance.
- Simple to use: no complex setup or apps needed—just pair and play.
What’s Less Good
- Battery life is modest (around 5 hours) which may limit long outdoor sessions without backup power.
- Mono sound and limited bass — you’ll feel the size constraint.
- No mic / speakerphone, no 3.5 mm input, no stereo pairing (unlike some higher-priced speakers).
- Floating? No — even though it’s waterproof, it does not float.
Who Should Buy It?
If you’re looking for a compact, rugged, fun Bluetooth speaker that you can take anywhere — to the shower, balcony, beach or hiking trail — then the JBL Go 3 is an excellent choice. Its strengths lie in portability, durability, and brand reliability.
If you instead want deep bass, stereo separation, long battery life (10+ hours), or advanced features like app integration, you may want to look at bigger or more expensive models. (The company’s own Go 4 or other models compare favourably.
My Opinion
The JBL Go 3 stands out in its category: a small speaker that punches above its weight in usability and quality. It’s not perfect, but it does exactly what many users need — easy, portable, solid audio in a durable package. For the price and size, it delivers great value.
If you’re looking for a no-fuss speaker that you can toss in a bag and forget about, the Go 3 is highly recommended. If you need more features or power, you may want to step up. But as an everyday companion for music on the move, it’s a clear winner.
